Kisii, Kenya – January 2, 2026 -In a heartfelt tribute to his late father, South Mugirango Member of Parliament and National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro has dedicated newly tarmacked roads in his constituency to Mwalimu Meshack Onyiego Kengere, realizing a long-held family dream of improved accessibility in the region.
Osoro shared the emotional story in a detailed social media post, recounting childhood memories from the 1990s when poor road conditions plagued South Mugirango then the only Gusii constituency without a single tarmac road.
Recalling a 1996 trip home from Manga, where his father taught at Manga Girls High School, Osoro described a arduous journey that ended in mud and frustration after heavy rains stranded their hired lorry.
Guests questioned the area’s accessibility, prompting his father to declare: “When I eventually become an MP, very soon, I will tarmac all South Mugirango roads, including this one.”
Tragically, Mwalimu Meshack passed away shortly after, along with Osoro’s mother, their bodies carried on shoulders over 4 kilometers due to impassable paths near Rikori.
” Today, though posthumously, I dedicate this road Ndur-Nyakorere-Nyabigena and Riembo-Nyakembene-Nyamarambe road to Mwalimu Meshack,” Osoro wrote.
“You may not be alive to see the tarmac that has passed through your home, just next to your grave, but I am sure you are rejoicing that your dream has been made a reality by your own son.”
The MP highlighted broader progress across the constituency, noting that even Tabaka Mission Hospital, where his mother worked, now benefits from tarmac.
He announced upcoming projects set for completion by 2027, including Etago-Ekona-Geteni-Nyamaiya, Nyamarambe-Esaka-Nyabigena, and Mochengo-Eburi-Ayora-Maroo-Otendo roads.
Osoro’s post also touched on his father’s political passion, a staunch supporter of multi-party democracy pioneer Kenneth Matiba and coordinator for Ford-Asili in the area during the 1992 elections.
