Kenya Airways Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Allan Kilavuka is set to exit the national carrier after six years at the helm, as he proceeds on terminal leave ahead of the expiry of his contract.
In a public announcement, the airline’s board praised Kilavuka for steering Kenya Airways through the turbulence of the COVID-19 period and overseeing growth in revenues and cargo volumes that helped reaffirm the airline’s operational viability.
Turnaround Under Kilavuka
During his tenure, Kenya Airways recorded a major financial turnaround, breaking an 11-year streak of losses and posting a significant profit after years of financial distress. The board said his leadership played a key role in stabilising the airline and restoring confidence in its operations.
Interim Leadership Appointed
The board has appointed Chief Operating Officer Captain George Kamal as Acting Group Managing Director and CEO, effective December 16, 2025, as the airline begins the process of recruiting a substantive office holder.
Focus Remains on Recovery Strategy
Kenya Airways said it remains committed to executing its turnaround strategy, including efforts to attract a strategic investor, as it seeks to strengthen its financial position and secure long-term sustainability.
