Jubilee Party Deputy Leader and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i marked the first Sabbath of the new year by attending a church service at Nyandoche Ibere Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nyansiongo Ward, Borabu Constituency.
During the service, Dr. Matiang’i expressed profound gratitude to God for the gift of life and the opportunity to welcome 2026 in good health.
“I thank God for allowing me to see this new year with strength and vitality,” he told the congregants.
The presidential hopeful also extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Nyansiongo for their unwavering support during the recent by-election in the ward.
Jackson Mogusu, running on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ticket and allied to Matiang’i’s camp, emerged victorious in the November 2025 poll, narrowly defeating his closest rival from the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) while fending off a strong challenge from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate.
“The people of Nyansiongo stood firmly with me during the by-elections. You did not allow the government to humiliate me,” Matiang’i said, referring to the high-stakes contest that was widely seen as a referendum on his political influence in his home turf.
He emphasized that a loss in the by-election would have been exploited by the government to undermine his credentials.
“If we had lost, they would have given me hard times, claiming I am not worthy to vie for the presidency.”
Looking ahead, Dr. Matiang’i described the political journey as tough and called on the faithful to pray for him as he prepares for greater national responsibilities amid his widely anticipated 2027 presidential bid.
Dr. Matiang’i was accompanied by the newly elected area MCA, Hon.Jackson Mogusu, underscoring the strong local backing for his political ambitions.
The event comes just days after Matiang’i’s New Year message, where he vowed to intensify nationwide campaigns throughout 2026 while urging mass voter registration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
