Nyamira, April 22, 2026 – Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo has firmly rejected assertions by Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale that the healthcare system in Nyamira County has collapsed, describing the claims as misleading and assuring residents that services remain fully functional.
The remarks by CS Duale were made today during a Senate session, where he directly told Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni: “Healthcare in Nyamira has collapsed, and has collapsed because of your governor.”
Duale attributed the alleged collapse to the county government’s failure to acquire dialysis and CT Scan machines under the National Equipment Services Programme (NESP).
In a detailed statement issued by the Governor’s Press Unit, the county leadership pushed back point by point, highlighting significant investments and ongoing service delivery.
The statement reads:“Our attention has been drawn to the statement of the Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon Aden Duale at the Senate today, claiming that the healthcare system in Nyamira County has collapsed.
His sentiments were based on the fact that the County Government of Nyamira has not obtained dialysis and CT Scan machines under the National Equipment Services Programme.
We wish to clarify as follows:The healthcare system in Nyamira County is working, with the County Referral Hospital being the referral for the other over 116 facilities.
Healthcare system in Nyamira has greatly improved over the last five years as a result of intentional investment in human and financial resources.
We have statistics showing patients from other counties seeking medical attention at Nyamira County Referral Hospital, Masaba Subcounty Level 4 Hospital in Keroka.
This is a demonstration of the growing confidence in our healthcare system beyond our borders.
Over the last five years, Nyamira County Referral Hospital has been offering specialised services, which patients sought elsewhere in the past. Some of the services include renal and orthopaedic surgeries.
Since 2022, more than 175 patients have benefited from urology services. Dialysis at the County Referral Hospital has eased access to these services.
Nyamira County Referral Hospital owns CT Scan machines. This has improved diagnostic services at the hospital. Patients are no longer traveling to facilities outside the county or in private hospitals which are expensive – in search of CT Scan services.
These specialised services are going on smoothly and efficiently. We can only acquire extra equipment under the NESP arrangement if need arises. This has not happened.
A working Healthcare System is a priority under H.E Governor Amos Kimwomi Nyaribo.”
The governor’s office emphasised that the county has prioritised healthcare, with the referral hospital now providing advanced services such as renal and orthopaedic surgeries that previously required travel outside Nyamira.
It also noted that the existing CT Scan machines at the facility have reduced the need for patients to seek expensive private care elsewhere.
The statement concluded: “On this note, we assure the public that the Healthcare system in Nyamira County is fully functional, with referral mechanisms to facilities beyond the county in place. There should be no panic.”
Governor Nyaribo’s administration maintains that while additional equipment under NESP could be considered if required, current infrastructure and specialised services are operating effectively and meeting local demand.
