Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Antony Kibagendi has described 2025 as an “exceptional year” in his political journey, marked by significant achievements, personal trials, and a renewed commitment to principled leadership.
In a New Year statement released on January 1, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator highlighted his role in organizing the historic May 2 rally in the Gusii region, which celebrated the return of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i to Kenya after years abroad.
The event, held at Gusii Stadium, drew massive crowds and signaled Matiang’i’s growing political influence ahead of the 2027 presidential race.
“I take immense pride in having been part of the team that organized and led the historic May 2nd rally marking Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s return to Kenya,” Kibagendi stated.
“That moment powerfully demonstrated the strength of grassroots mobilization and the people’s enduring desire for bold, decisive, and principled leadership.”
The MP also addressed one of the year’s most controversial moments: his heated altercation with Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale during a parliamentary committee session in October.
The exchange, which nearly escalated into a physical confrontation over allegations surrounding the Social Health Authority (SHA), drew widespread media attention.
“While difficult, that episode tested my character, reaffirmed my convictions, and underscored a timeless truth: standing firmly for one’s principles often comes at a personal cost, but it is a price worth paying,” Kibagendi reflected.
Kibagendi further celebrated what he described as “collective success” in the November by-elections across three wards in Nyamira County, crediting strategic organization and unity for securing victories.
These wins were seen by opposition supporters as a boost for anti-government forces in the Gusii region.
As a first-term MP operating in a challenging opposition environment, Kibagendi expressed pride in his parliamentary work, including oversight roles on the Health Committee and the Parliamentary Investment Committee on Education.
“Despite operating in a challenging and often hostile political environment as an opposition MP, I have remained steadfast in my duty to serve,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, the MP struck an optimistic tone: “As we look ahead, our resolve is even stronger. We shall do better in the coming year together.
