The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on Friday, January 9, 2026, officially released the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results during a ceremony held at AIC Chebisaas Boys’ High School in Uasin Gishu County.
Unlike in previous years, candidates will not be able to access their results through Short Message Service (SMS). Instead, the results are available exclusively online via the KNEC website.
Speaking during the release ceremony, Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos Ogamba said he was honored to preside over the official release of the results, noting that KCSE is the terminal summative assessment at the end of secondary education.
The examination evaluates candidates’ learning outcomes and guides their transition to tertiary education.
“This year’s release coincides with the transition of the inaugural Grade 10 cohort to Senior School as we continue to phase out the 8-4-4 system,” said the Cabinet Secretary.
According to the Ministry of Education, results for a total of 993,226 candidates were released. Of these, 492,012 were male candidates, representing 49.54 percent, while 501,214 were female candidates, accounting for 50.46 percent of the total candidature.
The number of candidates who attained the minimum university entry requirement of mean grade C+ and above stood at 270,715, representing 27.18 percent.
This marks an improvement from 246,391 candidates (25.53 percent) recorded in the 2024 KCSE examination.
CS Ogamba announced that candidates can check their results through the KNEC website or directly via [https://results.knec.ac.ke/](https://results.knec.ac.ke/).
Each candidate is required to enter their examination index number and one registered name, accept the privacy policy and terms of use, and then click the search button to view their results.
The release of the KCSE 2025 results now sets the stage for the placement of successful candidates into tertiary education institutions, including universities, TVET institutions, and colleges.
The Cabinet Secretary was accompanied at the event by the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Ambassador Prof. Julius Bitok; the Chairperson of the KNEC Council, Prof. Julius Nyabundi; KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr. David Njengere; and the Acting CEO of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Ms. Evaleen Mitei.
KNEC has urged candidates and parents to remain patient while accessing the online results system due to the high number of users expected to log in simultaneously.
