In a significant move to strengthen cultural identity among the Gusii people, Dr. Ombati Mokua has unveiled a new Tiktok program titled Obomo Bwomogusii Show.
The weekly initiative, which explores how ancestral roots influence contemporary life, was officially inaugurated on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
The launch event was graced by prominent Gusii leaders, including Kisii Senator Hon. Richard Onyonka and Hon. Huldah Momanyi, with cultural insights provided by Mr. Obino Nyambane.
During the discussions, Hon. Huldah Momanyi issued a strong call to action for the Gusii community, urging greater investment in preserving cultural traditions.
She highlighted how other Kenyan communities have allocated substantial resources to safeguard their identities, emphasising that cultural erosion risks diminishing the unique place of the Abagusii in the nation’s diverse fabric.
Echoing similar concerns, Dr Ombati Mokua pointed out a critical link between historical awareness and political empowerment.
He noted that many in the community remain disconnected from their origins, which contributes to narratives limiting their influence in higher political offices.
“Many don’t know where they have come from, and that’s why even in the political space, people claim the Gusii people don’t have enough numbers to run for high office,” he stated
The program airs every Sunday from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm, offering a dedicated platform for discussions on heritage, identity, and progress.
The second episode, broadcast on January 4, 2026, featured engaging conversations with guests Duke Mainga Echate, Lameck Change, and Obino Nyambane, building on the momentum from the premiere.
The show’s core mission is to examine how cultural roots shape future trajectories, particularly in fostering strong cultural identity, professional excellence, and effective political leadership.
By bringing together community figures, cultural experts, and thought leaders, Obomo Bwomogusii Show aims to inspire reflection, pride, and unity among the Gusii diaspora and those at home.
As the program gains traction, it is poised to become a vital voice in ongoing efforts to celebrate and protect Gusii heritage while equipping the next generation for greater achievements.
Viewers across the Gusii region are encouraged to tune in every Sunday evening for insightful conversations that bridge the past and the future of the Abagusii people.

We bring you the latest news from the larger Gusii region and beyond.
